Abused Piano VST instrument and sfx
“I am a big fan of AP library! An awsome, intuitive sfx vst instrument! It made made my life a lot easier when I made tension textures in Star Wars!” Ben Burtt - sound designer :))))
It all started when…
We dropped our old piano and decided to record all the nasty, broken sounds…This unique sound library is all about abusing the instrument and creating detailed, organic sound effects. Our carefully recorded multimiced instrument was set up to target movie post production, especially sound designers who want to build tension, create scary and stunning soundscapes. We applied several microphones, including Sennheiser mkh series, Neuman km mics and added Barcus Berry contact mics to them to catch the whole range of the instrument. It was also a goal to achieve organic and versatile sound effects, therefore we recorded long and evolving sounds with the help of using tools like brushes, metal rods, hammers, scrapers, rasps and saws.
After several weeks of hard work the multiple hours of recording was arranged into a 7.3 Gb filesystem categorised and meta tagged for an easy search, also suitable for Soundminer or Basehead.
The sounds are cleaned and edited for a direct use.
In addition to the large amount of sounds we created 47 Kontakt instruments 14 VST instruments for Battery4 (1.4 Gb of samples). The idea is to make it easy and quick to create a desired effect so that you can play the sounds with your midi controller.
This library and the included virtual instrument is suitable for genres such as horror, thriller furthermore any kind of game or movie trailer which aim at a strong, impressive and at the same time very musical character.
Let’s watch how we recorded those weird, eerie sounds:
And here are a few demo “songs”, actually textures and effect layers I made with help of this vst:
These examples were made in Nuendo and using Kontakt 5.5 sampler.
